In a surprising twist of tech serendipity, Randy Pitchford, the developer behind the celebrated Borderlands game series, has revealed images of what appears to be the unreleased Google Pixel Watch 5. According to Pitchford, a friend discovered the timepiece during a scuba diving expedition in the crystal-clear waters near Saint Martin.
Pitchford shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting that the watch's back bears the label 'Google Pixel 5,' a name that has yet to be officially announced or released by Google. "He noted that the reverse of the watch indicates that it is a Google Pixel 5, which has not yet been announced, let alone released," Pitchford wrote. "It seems to be fine. The face indicates an empty battery, but seems to have enough reserve power to display the correct time."
The discovery of the Pixel Watch 5 has sparked excitement and speculation within technology circles. Just a few hours after posting, Pitchford indicated he had been contacted by someone who claimed ownership of the device, and he has arranged for its return. Google has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding this unexpected reveal.
While specific details regarding the much-anticipated Pixel Watch 5 remain scarce, earlier rumors had suggested the upcoming device might feature Google’s proprietary Tensor processor. This incident draws parallels to the unveiling of the original Pixel Watch in 2022, where images of the unannounced device surfaced on social media after allegedly being left behind in a restaurant.
With Google typically unveiling its new Pixel devices in August, anticipation builds as tech enthusiasts await confirmation of the Pixel Watch 5's existence and its features in just a few months’ time.
For now, one thing is certain: this unexpected encounter with tech legend Randy Pitchford has captured the interest of consumers and industry watchers alike.
