In a bold move set to transform the e-commerce landscape, Amazon has rolled out its new delivery service, Amazon Now, which promises to bring groceries, household essentials, and a host of other items to consumers’ doorsteps in just 30 minutes. Launched in multiple U.S. cities on May 12, 2026, the service aims to meet the soaring demand for rapid, reliable delivery.
Expanding Delivery Horizons
Initially available in several major metropolitan areas, including Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, Philadelphia, and Seattle, Amazon plans to expand its ultra-fast delivery to additional cities such as Austin, Denver, Houston, Minneapolis, Orlando, Oklahoma City, and Phoenix by the year's end. This ambitious initiative targets tens of millions of customers nationwide, with eligible items clearly marked with “30-minute delivery” banners on the Amazon app and website.
Competing with Rapid Delivery Services
The launch of Amazon Now marks a strategic challenge to rapid delivery competitors such as DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Instacart. The service not only focuses on speed but also offers competitive pricing. For Amazon Prime members, an order incurs a fee of just $3.99, while non-members pay $13.99. Moreover, an extra small order fee may apply, maintaining a straightforward pricing structure compared to its rivals' often complex charges, which can include variable delivery fees and service add-ons.
Enhanced Fulfillment Network
To facilitate these speedy deliveries, Amazon leverages a network of smaller fulfillment centers located closer to urban customers, as opposed to relying solely on its larger distribution warehouses. This strategy allows for a reduced selection of items, thus accelerating delivery times. Customers can expect to receive a wide range of products, from fresh groceries and personal care items to electronics and even alcohol, where permissible.

Convenience Redefined
“Amazon Now is for when you need or want the convenience of getting your Amazon order delivered in 30 minutes or less,” stated Udit Madan, Senior Vice President of Amazon Worldwide Operations. “With thousands of items available for ultra-fast delivery, you can get everything from groceries for dinner to AirPods before a flight delivered right to your door.”
A Comprehensive Delivery Ecosystem
Amazon Now adds to the company’s existing suite of rapid delivery options, which include one-hour and three-hour services. Currently, these services boast over 90,000 products, alongside millions of items eligible for same-day delivery. In addition, Amazon continues to innovate with under-60-minute drone delivery tests via its Prime Air program in select locations.
As demand for swift delivery grows, Amazon’s 2025 statistics indicate that Prime members received over 13 billion items globally, with the U.S. accounting for a significant 8 billion—reflecting a remarkable 30% year-over-year increase.
As this new delivery model unfolds, Amazon is set to redefine what customers can expect from their online shopping experiences, merging speed and convenience into a single, accessible service.
