Crypto's Influence on Midterms: Fairshake PAC Claims Major Victories in Key Primaries

Robert Williams - May 20, 2026 - 26

In a striking demonstration of cryptocurrency’s clout in political arenas, the Fairshake PAC has claimed a decisive triumph in three pivotal state primaries, bolstered by an unprecedented $20 million investment in campaign media and advertisements. As the 2026 midterm elections loom closer, the outcomes could pave the way for a wave of pro-crypto candidates seeking legislative support for the burgeoning industry.

Evaluating Tuesday's results, a spokesperson for Fairshake declared a “6-0 sweep” for the crypto sector, a sentiment tempered only by an upcoming runoff in Alabama. With five Republican candidates and one Democrat either winning their primaries or progressing to runoffs in Georgia, Alabama, and Kentucky, the influence of crypto-backed financial support is unmistakable.

The Fairshake PAC, underpinned by contributions from influential cryptocurrency firms like Ripple Labs and Coinbase, strategically allocated its funding through its affiliate committees: the Defend American Jobs PAC focusing on Republican contenders and Protect Progress PAC aligning with Democrats advocating pro-crypto policies.

In this latest electoral push, triumphs included four Republican aspirants along with Democrat Jasmine Clark representing Georgia’s 13th Congressional district. Significant financial backing was evident, with Protect Progress channeling over $4.2 million to support Clark, while the Defend American Jobs committee reported expenditures surpassing $7.2 million for candidate Andy Barr vying for a seat in Kentucky's U.S. Senate.

Notably, Alabama's Barry Moore, having received $7.4 million to bolster his U.S. Senate campaign, will face a runoff against state Attorney General Steve Marshall and candidate Jared Hudson after no contender secured the necessary majority, escalating the stakes further in the coming days.

Looking ahead, Fairshake and its affiliates are anticipated to continue their financial support, armed with a substantial $193 million war chest to combat opponents labeled as anti-crypto and amplify pro-crypto voices. This financial muscle eclipses the PAC’s previous $130 million spent during the 2024 campaign cycle.

Despite these sizable investments, the PAC has not been impervious to setbacks. An attempt to undermine Illinois Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton's U.S. Senate primary was met with resistance, as she emerged victorious with over 40% of the vote.

In Texas, the PAC has intensified its efforts, directing over $4.1 million in support of Democratic candidate Christian Menefee, who aims to unseat incumbent Al Green in the 18th Congressional District. Green’s history of opposing crypto initiatives adds a layer of urgency to this race, as Protect Progress pours resources into counteracting his positions.

The results of the recent primaries not only underscore the growing influence of cryptocurrency in American politics but also foreshadow an invigorated battle as pro-crypto candidates clash with more traditional political establishments in the months to come.

As the dust settles on these preliminary contests, all eyes will now be on the upcoming runoff elections and how they may redefine the landscape for both the cryptocurrency industry and American legislative priorities.
